The Chairman
Most of private equity is built around the exit: the fund that must return capital, the clock that starts the day a deal closes. Ali Reza Eta built AH Equity Partners around the opposite instinct. It acquires businesses to own and run them, not assets to be dressed up and sold, but companies to be held for as long as they keep compounding.
He came to this through commodities, a business that rewards patience and the discipline to hold a position when others are trading out of it. The lesson carried over. A fund is built to expire; a well-run company, freed from any pressure to sell, can outlast any IPO. Time itself, rather than any single deal, becomes the thing that does the work.
Under his chairmanship, AH Equity Partners has grown into seven platform holding companies (technology, real estate, essential services, healthcare, franchise investments, development, and private capital), held under a single mandate, with a portfolio valued in excess of $850 million. Its companies operate across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Türkiye, Canada, and Georgia.
He runs the group the way he buys into it: up close. Rather than directing from a single headquarters, he works across its jurisdictions, near the companies wherever they operate: an owner on the floor, not a name on a letterhead.
Patience, patience, patience. Time is the only commodity you cannot buy back.
Principles
Allocate like an owner
Capital moves to where it compounds longest, not where it exits fastest. The group answers to no fund clock.
Time is the commodity that matters
Permanence changes every decision that follows it. When nothing has to be sold, quality can be chosen over speed, and a decade becomes a working unit of time.
Strength combines
Each company keeps its own name and craft; the group carries the weight behind it. What one platform earns in capability, the others inherit.
Privacy is policy
The group discloses what the public record requires and protects what it does not. Its operating companies are trade secrets.
